This was one of the songs on the Sailboat single and I loved it the first time I heard it.
It's a cover of a David Gray song and my favourite Katie cover.

This years love had better last
Heaven knows it's high time
And I've been waiting on my own too long
But when you hold me like you do
It feels so right
I start to forget
How my heart gets torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Feeling like you can't go on

Turning circles when time again
It cuts like a knife oh yeah
If you love me got to know for sure
Cos it takes something more this time
Than sweet sweet lies
Before I open up my arms and fall
Losing all control
Every dream inside my soul
And when you kiss me
On that midnight street
Sweep me off my feet
Singing ain't this life so sweet

This years love had better last
This years love had better last

So whose to worry
If our hearts get torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Don't you know this life goes on
And won't you kiss me
On that midnight street
Sweep me off my feet
Singing ain't this life so sweet

This years love had better last
This years love had better last
This years love had better last
This years love had better last

It's definately a great song and a fine performance by Katie. Showcases both her ability to make other peoples songs her own and David Gray inmense song-writing talents (Love his track The Other Side :D )
Shame though it's buried in a 4-track single....

First I had some problems with that song. but in the meanwhile I do love that song. It has a special atmosphere in it and the way, Katie brings the emeotion into the song is just breathtaking. I'm even tempted to give that song +3 points in the next round of the ranking.

I would love, if Katie would sing that song one day live, accoustically only with her guitar.

Someone said recently that they thought Katie's sad songs were (better) than her happy ones, or something like that. This is an example of that I think. The words, and particularly the rhythm, are almost funereal! But I love this song, it's going up my list. :!:

She should give this one a place on her next cd, it would fit right in.. :)

Love the song, certainly like David Gray (Lost Songs IMHO is his finest album to date) - is the link still there, I can't seem to get it to play........ thanks in advance

I tink, Katie is brilliant in both. Knowing how much emotion she can bring into a song, just like witchcraft straight going into the soul, means for me, that she is the godness of ballads. And here that song song is really a proof of that.

I know she is brilliant at both, but I think her voice is better suited to singing the sad bluesy songs rather than the upbeat bouncy ones, that's what I was saying. ;)

It´s a nice song. I like it. But in my opinion it´s not one of Katies best songs.

In my opinion, her voice fits to both. She can make it soft and smooth like riding on the clouds, but she can also give power (as in Spiders' Web). This Year's Love shows the soft part and it is just unbelievable, how much emotion she brings into that song. Amazing

Coincidentally, I'm writing while listening to "This Year's Love" which I've just received yesterday, and it's just another song which shows the width of Katie's voice range. :) (Hoping this is English, not so sure... :?)

I think it's a great song. It could have been on the album. Since it's released on a limited edition single, the future fans might never get to hear this beauty.

I like it, not as much as I should as I really prefer the original overall, but it's a nice enough cover. And it's nice to hear female vocals put to those beautiful lyrics.

Unfortunaltelly, this song has been only at single. But and so i think, that it's the best cover of K.

That's one of the rare songs of hers that I find totally boring... I don't like it.

I think, this is a song, which needs time. At the first beginning, I has huge problems with that song, but now it kills me. The song has a special atmosphere, very dark, but hopefull. And Katie is just divine.

I agree - this is actually one of my favourite covers, er, versions, by Katie.

This one is a bit under-rated

I don't know how often I heard this song on my mp3player, but today I paid more attention to it. It is so wonderful! Allthough Katie sings it so quietly it is such a strong song with its mood and its lyrics. (Particular in the end: 'On that midnight street, Sweep me off my feet, Singing ain't this life so sweet')

In my opinion this song should be in Katies standard repertoire and I would appreciate it to hear it live on day: only Katie and her guitar

It is funny because I always turn back from computer to the window when i play 'This years love' thinking about some nice event that happened to me or dreaming about sth and it's happening automaticly :D It creates great romantic atmosphere and i love to listen to it. For me it's like a higher level of Stardust which is very magical as well. Katie sings it so softly that it remembers me my favourite ICFU a bit.
'This years love' has a great propriety of calming feelings. Many of Katie's have but this one is one of the greatest in this topic :)

"David Gray's original is much better" or "I prefer David Gray's original to Katie's cover"?
I would prefer the latter formula, although not as my own opinion.
