There are not many songs of Katie I don't like so much. But the cover version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" defenitly belongs to them

Lyrics:

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ah... Ah...

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.

Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

It would be interesting to know what you think about this song.

I quite enjoyed it when she sang it live on the Radio the first time but it will never be in my top 20.

It's a good live song, its not one of the songs I like to listen to more of a background song. The version I have she goes off key in a few places so I don't use it to demonstrate to friends how good she is.

To sing a well known song of the Beatles is very difficult, because so many people will know the original.

So Katie also did this very excellent. She elt the Pop-Art elements all aout of it and made a wonderful acoustic version. The Bonus here is her wonderful: "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh"  :music: :music:

I actually like this one quite a bit.. The only part I'm not crazy about is the "aaah aaah"s here and there.

I loved the original song, but this interpretation is brilliant, live or acoustic! :music:

One of my former favourites because the first time I heard it she sung it live and acoustically. That was lovely. It’s still a very great song, probably my favourite "cover" at least. :)

I quit enjoy this song, but the original not really. To electrical, but that's trademark the Beatles. I like both performances, "regular" and acoustic.

you are right, I have never loved Beatles covers
but this one is fantastic, it's well done and you don't miss the
original one. I think that you cannot even compare one with
the other, they are completely different (the ages are so different!)
Katie (Batt & C.) took out LSD from the song and made
it an happy ballad. Great, I love it
(and i still love the Beatles' one)

In the acoustic version, it sounds as if she says quarters instead of porters in the lyrics,
"Picture yourself on a train in a station, with plasticine porters with looking glass ties,"

and in the live version (my favourite of the two) she replaces "train in a station" with "train by a station".

Yeah, useless bits of trivia. :P

When you talk about her live version are you referring to her singing it at the awards show or do you mean when she sang it live the very first time on the radio at the John Lennon tribute show, when she also sang Cry Baby Cry?

The version on the It's Only Pain single, which I'm guessing was the latter. :)

Yes, the Only Pain single track was the Radio show performance.

Because I don't like The Beatles I never have a problem with anyone covering their songs  . It's almost always an improvement. Actually I always think of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds as being an Elton John song because he covered it ages ago.

This a great cover by Katie as she performs a very complex song giving a happy-go-lucky perky twist to it. It always makes me smile when I hear it.
And yes, the "AHHHHHH" part is simply divine!!!!
(and cute too!)

Time to string me up, I am a HUUUGE fan of the Beatles, and I actually don't like this version. It's just.... wrong! In fact I struggle to think of many Beatles songs I like covers of - Aerosmith's Come Together is passable, and of course my own rendition of Rocky Racoon!

The original song is a masterpiece (as every Beatles song), and it's incredible how innovative the sound has been 41 years ago!

The song remains the same, even in the acoustic Katie version:

Quote:
Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and :joker: marmalade skies :joker:

John Lennon has always denied the link of the song title to LSD, that's nothing but an urban legend, and Katie has kaleidoscope eyes, that's true.

Personally I had preferred the original arrangement with lots of electronics and electrical noise
and Katie singing, that would have reminded me of Laurie Anderson or Nico. Do you know them, @Katie?

My little daughter loves the acoustic version of the song -- children's taste is kind of warranty for quality.

It's not true that covering a Beatles song is difficult. Since form and content of the Beatles songs fit always perfectly, it's easy to line out another masterpiece based on a Beatles masterpiece. Example: Joe Cocker's cover of With a little Help from my Friends.

And even if sung by Katie: it remains a Beatles song, that's Beatles magic.

The contrary is true! It's just right. The girl with kaleidoscope eyes herself is singing the song 40 years after have been invented!

Perhaps we should agree to differ! We can probably agree that it would be best for Katie not to do any more Beatles covers.

I quite like Katie's rendition of Cry Baby Cry, although I think the song is more suited to her style.

I looooooooooooooove the live version from 2006. In that year it was in my ranking even No.2 after Spider's Web. Also the accoustic version is great, but the Live version is just Katie at hers best. I hope, she considers bringing that song back into her Live programm.

And she sung that song 2007, when she got the ECHO!!!
