I have to say, that I don't like so much the album version, but I do love the accoustic live version.

Katie shows her amazing ability and the power in her voice.

@Believer: That is not true, that the fans refuse Kosmic Blues and Spellbound! I do loooooooooooooove both.

I know that you love Kozmic Blues and Spellbound, KEWA, but others don't (look at the ranking!)

Oh, IMHO even the No.86 in our ranking is still a great song.

For me, as Kosmic Blues, Lilac Wine is a live song. The album version can't give that special feeling. Look at that phote above, how Katie lives that song, while singing. It send shivers up and down my spine.

That is why I'm so keen on a live album of Katie. Katie on a studio album is brilliant on a live album, she is just divine

In my eyes/ears all Katie songs are live songs because she's so good live!!!

I have to say then that "Lilac Wine" is one of the very first Katie songs I really fell in love with.

Lilac Wine is a really cool song, I've always liked Katie's album version of it, but I agree that when she sings it live she litterally brings the song to life. I often feel like she is singing it in a big musical stage production where she fills the theatre full of emotion based on the story line of the play. To me it always feels like much more than just another well performed song in a concert set list, it feels really emotional. I love it.

I've just listened to the version of the song above and it really is a beautiful song, perfect for Katie's voice. She delivers it with such a slow pace it's lingeringly lovely!
One thing though; I always thought the last line was 'I feel I'm ready for my love', not (as above) 'I feel unready for my love'. Kind of changes things a bit! I'm not sure which is right now?

But is she ready or unready that's the question.

Dirty Dice is not a "live song", Lilac Wine is. (Just like Belfast, Faraway Voice, etc.)
Dirty Dice (the album version) is my favourite song from Pictures, but Katie almost killed it on the stage.
It was a little shock to me.

I know Spellbound is a different song so it is going slightly off topic but I don't like the live version of Spellbound but I love it on the album.

And it's a little shock to read that  I disagree with you, the accoustic version of Dirty Dice was great. I really loved to hear such a version of this song, that shows all the possibilities with all Katie's songs :D

I second that. It is just wow only accoustical. But I would wish to hear also a live version with Katie's magnificent band one day.

On the other had. Lilac Wine is a song, which can't be done better, than accoustical live. This song is 100% fitting for being played only with the guitar and Katie's voice. A timeless beauty.

Yes, that's nice, of course.
But the album track is brilliant and quite hypnotic.
That's what I miss about the live version.
Lilac Wine, Faraway Voice, Piece by Piece and Cried For You, all these are perfect at the gigs live.
But Dirty Dice (the album track) is something special.

Btw, I love this live version of Lilac Wine:

For me, Lilac wine and Lerning the blues are two the best tracks on Call off the search :) These two have got such a special atmosphere, so hypnotic and magic :music:

I think, you are right. It is the atmosphere, which makes that song special. This is a song, Katie could even do accappella. It is perfectly fitting for Katie's voice and her way of singing it.

That's right :approve: Tuesday, at the gig in Trier, Lilac wine was my favourite song of the whole concert. :) I appreciate LW much more in a live performance than on CD. In general I prefer the intimate moments with Katie alone at the guitar :D These calm songs with so much emotion, intensity and great lyrics! I hope Katie won't distance too much from this style in the future.

Same with me. It's the worst album track, but when she now sings it live, it's breathtaking. :approve:

Indeed, she did an extra performance on LW. Same for IDBIL, fantastic song when she sings it live!
I feel exactly the same regarding calm songs. That's why i hope the next album will be closer to the first two :?
