Hush now, Honey, here's the word
My Baby's gonna buy me a mockingbird
If that mockingbird don't sing
Baby's gonna buy me a diamond ring
If that diamond ring don't shine
We'll still have a real good time,
So I'm making it clear
Woah, woah.

To this man that I have found
I'm gonna sing the sweetest sound
And if that sweetest sound don't rock
I'm gonna buy him a music box
And if that music box don't play
I'm gonna stay with him anyway
So I'm making it clear
Woah, woah

When that man and I are wed
I'm gonna keep him warm in bed
And when my man's no longer hot
I'm gonna bring him a vodka shot
And when that spirit's made him strong
I'm gonna stay with him all night long
I'll be holding on tightly
Woah, woah

A slow grower at first, I know fully enjoy the sassines and playfulness of this song. I liked when she performs it live, for as like MAIY, it looks as hses toying with her audience! ;)
Another keeper...

This is wonderful to hear live.

Not one of my favorite album tracks though

I'm not a big fan of the album version, but I have to say I like the live version of this song very much

Especially when Katie begins to sing:

"... When that man and I are wed" :approve: Absolutely wonderful!

It's the second best standard 12-bar blues style song on the album.

Hmm :suspect: :suspect: Is it just me, or on the video posted in the first post, does she sing "I'm going to bring him warm in bed"?

This is a great song, where she has audience in her hand.
But i do miss the sing a long on this tour, i think it has been great fun.

So do I... or maybe reading your post first made me listenned badly...

Anyway, I love this song in live and I almost think that it should have been composed for lives, that's why I skip it sometimes when I listen to the album version...

I like this song and the way it grows in intensity building up as we go further in. I also particularly like the 'discordant' nature of some of the chords and the fact that she does not try to go too high with the notes but instead goes out of key in order to keep the harmony of her voice equal to that of the melody. Sorry, a technical problem...I know!

Kind of comparable to the MAIY situation. On the CD it’s far from being my favourite, live it’s wonderful and a "must" for every tour. 8-)

OK.
Because there is an English nursery rhyme (or lullaby):

"Mama's Gonna Buy You a Mockingbird

Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.

If that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

If that diamond ring turns to brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.

If that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy-goat.

If that billy-goat won't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.

If that cart and bull turns over,
Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.

If that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.

If that horse and cart falls down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town."

Hush, little baby (midi)

For me together with OTRA and Spider's Web, the Katie Live Song. It can't be missed in any of her concerts. Great also during the tour 2006, how she played with the audiance.

When I "showed" this song for my friend, he saids: "Oh, my! This remembers me the EMINEM!!!"
Surely I ask: "So, what?!?!?!?!?!"   :? :? :? :?: :?: :?:

"And if you want me to,
Daddy's gon buy you a mockingbird.
    I'ma give you the world,
I'ma buy a diamond ring for you, I'ma sing for you,
I'll do anything for you to see you smile.
And if that mockingbird don't sing, and that ring don't shine,
    I'ma break that birdie's neck.
I'll go back to the jeweler who sold it to ya,
And make him eat every karat,
    Don't f**k with Dad."

The lyrics are based on a lullaby, so it's no surprise others have used it as well. ;)

Eminem sung together with Dido.

I would not be surpriced, if someone else would cover that song. The lyrics are amazing, as the melody is. But Katie's version will be the best anyway!!!

I'd rather say Eminem took a beautiful song from Dido and made one of his biggest successes of it... But I don't like his song except for the "Dido part" at all I must say... If Katie would cover the song, it'd be "Thank You" and not "Stan"... Sorry, I'm completely off topic here

Yes, that would be horrible. Eminem (and I like Eminem!!) spoils Katie's masterpiece Mockingbird Song

I think it's one of the best takes on a traditional song that I've ever heard. The way that the lyrics have been adapted is pure genius; as is the fantastic tune. Well done Mike for bringing it up to date, thus making this old time lullabye such a rocker.
