You are the tiger burning bright
Deep in the forest of my night
You are the one who keeps me strong in this world

You sleep by the silent cooling streams
Down in the darkness of my dreams
All of my life I never knew
You were the dream I'd see come true
You are the tiger burning bright

I was the one who looked so hard I could not see.
Now I could never live without the love you give to me.

I lived like a wild and lonely soul,
Lost in a dream beyond control.
You were the one who brought me home down to earth.

For you are the tiger burning bright
Deep in the forest of my night
All of my life I never knew
You were the dream I'd see come true
You are the tiger burning bright

An OK song for me. I like it, but it's not required listening in my book.

Absolutely amazing song, I can't believe it ranks so low in the song ranking. It's a Top10 song for me. Especially the line "I lived like a wild and lonely soul, Lost in a dream beyond control." she sings it so beautiful it almost makes me cry everytime.

The lyrics are "inspired" by William Blake (1757-1827):

The Tiger
“Tiger! Tiger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, and what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tiger! Tiger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?”

@barbara, you don't like kozmic blues, you don't like crawling up a hill, you don't like spellbound, you don't like tiger in the night; do you still like katie melua? :P

An ok song for me also. Unfortunately, in relation to the song it's placed next to on the album, it is completely overshadowed and loses it's individuality. My rating: 6/10

I really don't like Kozmic Blues. Crawling up a Hill I don't hate or anything, some versions I prefer more than others. Spellbound was my favourite from the start, but I just didn't like her live version. Tigar in the Night is one of those that I don't mind but I wouldn't put it at the top of my list. Blue Shoes, everyone knows I have never liked it. :joyjoy: :joyjoy:

Also for me a top 10 Katie Hit. That song has a special happy feeling. One day, whe we have a "Best Off" album from Katie, that song will be present.

One of my favourites from COTS and one of my absolute favourites overall. Besides, I love tigers. There is a certain magical, child-like quality to the song. It's very soothing and fits Katie's voice perfectly.

Tiger in the Night is one of the few songs that for me doesn't improve the more you hear it. Perhaps there is rather less to it than many of Katie's songs? I only recently heard her sing it at the Berlin club, the name of which escapes me  , but it made a pleasant change.

that's true. Katie brings a very special atmosphere into that song. Whe I hear that song (veeeeeeery often) I find myself with a smiling face.

I think, that is one of that resons, that makes Katie that special. She can bring very special atmospheres into a song, just in the way, she sings it.

That's so funny to read now, because many people were surprised when it turned out that it made it to the Collection! I was very happy actually, because it's one of my favourites. But it's not a very popular song, fairly unknown, never released as a single. Guess Katie and/or Mike must like it very much, otherwise I can't think why they put it on the Collection.
But tell me, KEWA, do you also have a crystal ball?
