Belfast is not only a masterpiece but a mastermastermasterpiece. It is so full of emotion, so full of live. Katie's way of singing it is just geniuos. Every line, every note is one of my favourites fragments of Katie's music.

I remember standing in the concert just 3 meter from Katie, hearing her singing that song. I had big tears in my eyes.

Must have been great indeed... can't wait 'til October again now

that memory made me listen to that song 4 time in a row yesterday. Every time I had tears in my eyes. That song is absolutely breathtaking genial!!!!

As some of the others have said, I do like the simplicity of this song - just Katie and the guitar.

I've found the original stuff on the BRIT School's site! I think ironically I prefer it to the album version. :music:

Let me know what you think!

I never got to hear it :(

Y'know what we should buy her for her birthday? A webcam! We could have non-stop concerts and we'd always be up to date with her progress.

I wonder if she comes here often. Katie, give us a sign!

I got stuck with Belfast for the last week. I even tend to give + 4 for that song in the next ranking

Recently I took time and watched the wonderful Croydon Concert on the OTRA DVD once again.

I never took notice before what wonderful version of Belfast she performed there. She did it so perfectly (for me better than on the 'COTS' album).

It looks like she is thinking about the people and the situations she sings about in this song while singing this track at this particular concert. Absolutely wonderful! :approve: :approve:

Also for me, this is the best version I have ever heard of that great song. Breathtaking

That's from the OTRA DVD isn't it?

I think it's from COTS Special Edition DVD. But need to verify that. It's very funny anyway.

i found this video.
It's not as "perfect" as it is on the Cd.
But i like this video because :
1- it represents what seems to be the beginning of her carriere (decoration, small stage&audience, hair undressed ! :joyjoy: )
i feel almost nostalgic...
2- we can see her hands playing, and for me (and others on MW playing guitar) that's precious help.
3- this video is "unusual", AND SIMPLE just like Katie

Hi all,
Does anyone know the origin of the phrase "walls of release"? From the first time I heard the song, it seemed strangely familiar, but I can't place where I might have heard it before. The internet is no help. Google just brings up 6 or 8 pages of links to "Belfast" lyrics. Just over a week ago, I played in an orchestra backing up a Celtic band. The leader was from Belfast, so I asked him about the walls of release. He instantly and vehemently denied any knowledge of the subject. From his reaction, it was clear he did know something, but didn't want to talk. Now I'm more curious than ever.
Thoughts?

There is a wall in Belfast that separates the Catholic and the Protestant parts of the town. Maybe that is meant, "wall of release" could be some ironic name for it. Here a picture of a "painting on the wall of release" (provided that is what it refers to):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/d ... elfast.jpg

The existence of this wall might be embarassing for some people, that's why he maybe didn't want to talk about it... :?

I always though it was in reference to the Loyalist and Republican murals along the peace line (wall) and on the side of peoples houses.

I think, that is exactly, what Katie wanted to reach with that line. That we are discussing about.

For me that wall was a wall into the minds of the Pinguins and Cats
