I've got a ticket,
To the fast city,
Where the bells don't really ring,
Getting off the plane the cold air,
Rushes like bullets through my brain,
And I'm divided between penguins and cats,
But it's not about what animal you¹ve got,
It's about being able to fly,
It's about dying nine times,

Aah (x 2)

Walked on Broadway,
Going up to falls,
With the old man I used to know,
The paintings on the walls of release,
Are colourful but they are no Matisse,
And I'm divided between penguins and cats,
But it's not about what animal you've got,
It's about being able to fly,
It's about dying nine times,

Aah (x 2)

It's about being able to fly,
It's about dying nine times,

Aah (x 2)

I'm probably the only one who does not consider that song a masterpiece. It's certainly a good one, but far away from her outstanding songs. I really cannot understand why in the ranking it's in the Top10. :suspect:

Another song that stands out due to its simplicity and beautiful vocal delivery. You can really feel Katie's sweeteness here despite the political undertones.
Should play it more oftently at her gigs instead of Dirty Dice!!!! (Please play it at the O2!!! ;) )

I agree, I don't like the acoustic version of Dirty Dice at all, whereas the live performance of Belfast is very good.

This is definitely a masterpiece!!!!!!!

Also in my top 10.

And it always was. I recently downloaded it from the Website of the Brit School at the project side of 2003 and I have to say it was still perfect at this early stadium

I like the wordplay at the beginning:

I've got a ticket,
To the fast city,
Where the bells don't really ring,

;) ;)

Definitively in my top 10... even in my top 3 actually! :music: :music:

Concerning the concerts, I've heard Belfast and Dirty Dice, so I'm fine :singingk:

In my top 1. Don’t have to add anything more eh?
Actually I’m a fan of acoustic music, and this one is clearly a masterpiece in my opinion.

I'd never noticed that before! I'd picked up the 'fast' bit, but never the 'bells'. Thanks for pointing it out! :approve:

Well, it's simple:

bell + fast = Belfast (That's the song title ;) )

"Fast City" is the pet name for Belfast (as far as I remember). "Fast" and "Bell" indeed are only wordplays since they have nothing to do with the original meaning of Belfast (Béal Feirste = mouth of the Farset river).

I thought "bells" was a reference to "Bell" as an usual last name in Belfast
but I can be wrong. Anybody (from Belfast) knows?

I always find the comparison between 'Penguins' and 'Protestants', and 'Cats' and 'Catholics' amusing. :music:

Belfast is my No. 1 !!! of all Katies Songs.
Everytime when I hear the song I must cry or nearly cry. When I listened to the CD at home, in the car, and of course when Katie sings it live.
I can´t listen to this songs without tears in my eyes, I don´t know why, it just happens, you can´t do anything. It´s my song.

This week was a Call Off The Search album week and I realized that this song is really wonderful. It's rare to have so many beautiful parts in the same song, and the chorus is breathtaking... A great song for Katie's voice

Belfast is not only a masterpiece but a mastermastermasterpiece. It is so full of emotion, so full of live. Katie's way of singing it is just geniuos. Every line, every note is one of my favourites fragments of Katie's music.

I remember standing in the concert just 3 meter from Katie, hearing her singing that song. I had big tears in my eyes.
