The song is about addictions, habits and even obsessions and one's inabillity to break them. It's true, apparently, that a section of the lyrics were inspired by acne, particularly the line "The more you scratch the more you itch"

This song is still an enigma for me, which I suppose makes it more interesting. I can't really grasp why, if the circle represents an obsession (a vicious circle?), it is perfect. 'Perfect' means complete here and not in a good way I assume. The home-made castle is the relationship (castles in the air?)? How does it all relate to acne? :?
Neither can I see the sexual slant on it which has been talked about here. I'd love to be enlightened, someone? ;)

Let me just say though that, irrespective of my shortcomings with them, I do think the lyrics are very well written, :D

I think it's about the general absurdity of life:

Quote:
But it's time to let it out so we can build a brand new castle.
And even when I'm walking straight I always end up in a perfect circle

Perfect Circle

Here are two versions of her live performances, one while promoting at the album's release, and a funkier version last week.

Perfect Circle (September 29, 2007) in Europe:  http://www.box.net/shared/d2j9ksrgg4
Perfect Circle (June 6, 2008) on "Zomer 2008":  http://www.box.net/shared/uen1woco4o

I love her second performance! The differences are remarkable. :strum:

It's as though Perfect Circle is about to be released as her next single and not Ghost Town.

The first performance was for a radio in 2007 so I guess that it was easier for Katie to perform Perfect Circle alone with the guitar than Ghost Town with the whole band :joyjoy: Maybe she didn't work yet on an accoustic version of Ghost Town, which may be weird as she already played If You Were A Sailboat without the band when it was released as a single :dunnok: Or Katie doesn't like an accoustic version of Ghost Town... who knows ?

Absolutely, that's a great live song. :music: It definitely has the longest instrumental solo ever (of Katie's songs).

Yes and it's brilliant even if Katie doesn't sing, but seeing her in front on the piano is enough! :)

For me the debut of this title was in Berlin - summer 2007. I remember I loved that song from the beginning and I thought, it fits so perfectly into the repertoir of Katie :approve: :approve: :approve:

Later I was so happy about the studio version of this wonderful track.

yes you are totaly right, it fits so well in her repertoir (a french word btw, funny...).

The intro of that song is the key of why i love it soooo much.
When i hear the first notes, i feel totaly invaded, in a state of fullness.
The "TAP" effect on the strings make that song special to me.
 Thanks Katie Thanks:bow:

I'm sure i miss something important but the (English) lyrics don't really talk to me, sorry, i only get the general sens when she explained it, but it went back on the second plan to me, behind the music :
The rythm, the SOLO guitar (  to her guitarist   )...and all that positive tonality get directly into my vains.
I could listen to that intro again and again ("in loop" is the good word ?)
Well, now , i've come full "circle", and you must think i am crazy...

But i am crazy about that song !

Yes, I was blown away too. It's such a brilliant song. And this first hearing of Perfect Cycle (and WIMAY) is still of my all time favourites in my MP3 player

this is what Katie about Perfect Circle :
Quote:
Which song off the new album is the most fun to play live?

It's a song called "Perfect Circle." It's lots of fun, because when I play with the band, they jam over it and do their thing. I get to play with amazing musicians and their input is really special.
