Some call it faith, some call it love.
Some call it guidance from above.
You are the reason we found ours,
So thank you stars.

Some people think it's far away,
Some know it's with them everyday.
You are the reason we found ours,
So thank you stars.

There are no winds that can blow it away on the air,
When they try to blow it away 's when you know it will always be there.

To some it's the strength to be apart,
To some it's a feeling in the heart.
And when you're out there on your own, it's the way back home.

There are no winds that can blow it away on the air,
When they try to blow it away is when you know it will always be there.

Some call it faith, some call it love.
Some call it guidance from above.
You are the reason we found ours,
So thank you stars.
Thank you stars,
Thank you stars,
Thank you stars

Is it actually true that the song was originally written for the soundtrack of a cartoon film? I read somewhere that it is from the soundtrack of "Watership down" and therefore again it's a cover, but I'm not sure if it's true.

I only know that it was used for the smart(car)-advertisment of the last summer and it suited very well to the shown pictures :) :)

For me 'Thank You Stars' always will be an alltime favourite of Katie. This song supports her voice so well and it is a highlight evertime to hear it - no matter on mp3, on televison - or for the best - at a concert.

It is a pity that it never was released as an A-side on a single, my opinon is it would have became a hit. Yes, I know ... it was released as a B-side (and somebody in the offrum brought this argument there as I made the same suggestion some time ago.) So I say it is a reason but it is no barrier. :approve: :approve:

I don't remember it in Watership Down, but I suppose it could have been. It doesn't bother me that it is a cover.

It is definitely not in Watership Down, and as far as I know it was never written for it, so I'm not sure. Does anyone know when it was written? Because Watership Down was made in 1978.

I've seen a YouTube video of Watership Down somewhere on this forum with Thank You Stars being sung by someone other than Katie, don't know who. It definitely wasn't in the original film, this was a short film of clips from WD with the music dubbed on.
Mike Batt did write the theme music to Watership Down I believe; Bright Eyes sung by Art Garfunkle.

A song I definitely love ! The instruments used and the Katie's voice give a wonderful colour to the whole sound. Very pleasant to listen :music:

Yes, I found out it is not from the movie - it is from the animated series 'Watership Down' which was realized later on.

Here I found a fansite to it with the title http://www.thankustars.co.uk/ ;) ;)

Click on the left in the main menu on the link Multimedia and scroll down till the musical scenes.

Here you could find a german version (withouth lyrics), an english version (as Hans posted above) and also a dutch version (with dutch lyrics !!!!!!! :approve: )

Btw, you must download it and use Realplayer

"Later he would work on the music for the 1999 Watership Down TV series, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Art Garfunkel once again performed a song for the TV soundtrack (though not Bright Eyes) called 'When You're Losing Your Way In The Rain' which wasn't used in the show. The song however originated from Mike Batt's earlier album 'Tarot Suite' and was originaily performed by Colin Blunstone. Bright Eyes was instead performed by former Boyzone member Stephen Gately though the new version was not as successful as Art Garfunkel's original. Other stars who are featured on the soundtrack are Cerys Matthews from Catatonia performing 'Thank You Stars', which would later be covered by Katie Melua for her album Piece By Piece, Paul Carrack from Mike and the Mechanics performed 'Winter Song' and Gary Martin provides the narration for 'Frith's Blessing' to music by Batt. Mike also performed an original song 'A View From A Hill'."

Not one of my favourites. One of the weaker ones on Pbp. I can understand why other people would like it; good song but it's just not my best song.

A beautiful song augmented by Katie's lovely vocals and the sublime Mandolin accompaniment. Definetly a Katie classic and a live standard. Another home run by Mr. Batt.

PS: can anyone find the Paul Carrack tune for Watership Down on youtube? I would very much like to hear it.

An all time Katie Classic. Like JLH this song is heaven on earth. Thank you stars, that Katie sings that amazing song.

Great also, that it has been used in that SMART advert.
