Was a track on the If You Were a Sailboat single. I think it's fantastic and vastly underrated, probably because it isn't heard much. I'm afraid it's another of those that give me the shivers,even, yesterday as I lay in a hot bath! Katie, you have that power.

And the junk mail still comes for you
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.

When you left, didn’t even leave a note
Saved yourself, didn’t spare my pain,
Now I know how it feels to hit the wall,
I’ll never fall again;

And the junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.
The junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.

Gazing down on the busy street below,
From my room where the walls are grey;
Don’t know how I will ever get myself
Through another day.

And the junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.
And the junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.

I poured some wine,
And I poured a glass for you,
I should know that I just need one.
And last night I lit two cigarettes,
Forgetting that you’d gone.

And the junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.
And the junk mail still comes for you,

And reminds me of a life I need to forget.

This is a little different lyrics (as Katie sings it):

Junk Mail

When you left, didn’t even leave a note
Saved yourself, didn’t spare my pain,
Now I know how it feels to hit the wall,
I’ll never fall again;

And the junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a time I'll never regret.
The junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.

Gazing down on the busy street below,
From my room where the walls are grey;
Don’t know how I will ever get myself
Through another day.

And the junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a time I'll never regret.
The junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.

I poured some wine,
And I poured a glass for you,
I should know that I just need one.
And last night I lit two cigarettes,
Forgetting that you’d gone.

And the junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a time I'll never regret.
The junk mail still comes for you,
And reminds me of a life I need to forget.

/Songwriter: Mike Batt/

Btw. "If You Were A Sailboat" was a very strong maxi-single with great songs, I think.

I agree, I was pleased to get 4 songs when I bought the single recently (still haven't listened to IYWAS on it yet!)

Absolutely amazing song. It send thousands of shivers up and down my spine. For me one of the most underrated songs from Katie.

Junk mail, eg 'bulk mail' is typically not addressed to anyone in particular. On that basis, the song leaves me scratching my head. The song is a serviceable ditty to help move IYWAS singles, but I can't really relate to the song on an emotional level. It's a tad depressing; the person needs to go outside in the sun and stop worrying about an ex-lover's junk mail.

Well, junk mail is usually addressed to an individual, perhaps you're thinking of 'mailshots'? What does puzzle me is not being able to relate to the emotions in the song; maybe you've never lived with anyone?
You can do everything in your power to remove painful memories in your previously-shared home, but these uninvited reminders in the post are killers. Going out in to the sun?

This is another classic Katie song. I really like the orchestral part in it

Do anyone know if it's available somewhere by any chance? (Who's got 2 copies? :D)

Sorry I got rid of my last spare quite recently. I now only have WAWW and ITLGO spares left.

If it's urgent: http://cgi.ebay.de/Katie-Melua-If-you-w ... dZViewItem

I usually ship to Germany only, but for someone from Meluaworld, I would make an exception. ;) I would just have to find out the shipping costs before, but we could certainly find an agreement on that.

If you can wait a while, try checking out ebay.co.uk, that's where I got that copy from.

It's a shame I didn't ask earlier then... :( But I won't do the same mistake with WAWW and ITLGO, I'd be glad if you could send them to me (with Ghost Town, there's no hurry as I already have the songs, I just miss the CDs). Thanks anyway! :)

You do know it will cost you EUROs 5 for each. The money will be going to The Monkey Sanctuary. Can't remember off hand if I have your full name and address.

Hm. Sometimes you can do nothing though. I understand "Junk Mail" (= Spam) not literally, but as something persisting, reiterating, difficult to become free of. It's quite difficult if not impossible to clean up an e-mail account which has been tracked by spammers, as it is for a broken heart to live where in the past shared the life with a beloved person.

Yes of course 'Junk Mail' could be a metaphor for all the other reminders of an ex-lover which come at you unexpectedly.
A piece of music (even Katie's) which comes suddenly on the radio could be just as painful. :cry:

For me Junk Mail is one of that typical unbelievable brilliant Katie B-Sides. For me the emotion come perfectly threw in the way Katie sings it. It is depressing and it makes you cry, but it is also so wonderful. Great Katie classic!!!

JM is very special because it begins very sad and changes then in melancholic in the chorus.
At the moment , its my favourite .

A very interesting tune this one: Mike Batt wastes no expense in giving it all the trimmings to this track while Katie's magnificient voice gives a lot of gravitas to the lyrics and their meaning, despite not being one of Batt's best. Not surpising then that it finished as a B-side.
