Not heard nearly enough.

My children played a skipping game
On market day in Guernica
On market day before they came
Before they came to Guernica.

I search my soul but cannot start
to find forgiveness in my heart.
My little ones no longer play
In Guernica on market day.

My father wore his linen suit
On market day in Guernica
He always sold the finest fruit
Before they came to Guernica

Now there's no way to let him know
How much I loved and miss him so
I watched as he was blown away
In Guernica on market day.

Away
Away
All blown away

My children played a skipping game
On market day in Guernica
On market day before they came
Before they came to Guernica.

I search my soul but cannot start
To find forgiveness in my heart.
My little ones no longer play in Guernica
On market day.

This line, "I search my soul but cannot start to find forgiveness in my heart" is really moving and sung beautifully. Not very well known, so this song should be in everyone's playlist of great Katie songs.

I only heard this song recently, but I couldn't believe it was Katie singing it (obviously I knew it wa her, but you know what I mean xD).

Did she write it herself?

In terms of songs she herself has written, this is one of her best. It shows her true gift as a songwriter; hopefully she will write more like this in the future.
Again, another good song wasted as B-side.

Together with the shirt of a ghost, Katie's best B-Side.

For me, this could even have been a A-Side as single. It sends the shivers up and down my spine.

But she has never played it Live. I hope she does one day.

Really, I stand corrected then, but I have always been under the impression it was her composition.

Yes, I just checked. It is so strange because I have always that of it as one of her songs.
Shows how wrong one can be if one doesn't check these things. :joyjoy:

Then you can maybe explain to me what it means to "start to find" forgiveness, I never could give any sense to it. It seems to me, that the word "start" was just inserted to get a rhyme, and that is something I do not like.

Another great song, this song had to be one the piece by piece album

It's higher in my ranking than NMB, which is quite strange for singles

It's one of my favourites too. Can only listen to it in small doses because I find it very moving. Strangely I think it's because Katie sings it in a kind of detached way.
It seems rather a 'random' song; does anyone know if it has any special significance to MB?

I think it's quite clear what is meant. Such a terrible act resulting in personal tragedy is going to be difficult to forgive. Sometimes people can, sometimes they can't. Sometimes they can begin the forgiveness process, but in this case she couldn't. Her soul might insist that she ought to try, but it's to no avail.

It still sounds strange to me. "Start forgiving" would be fine, but "start to find forgiveness", is that really normal, understandable English? :?

one of my favourites but then I say that about a lot of her songs. It is up there at the top for me though. Only Katies singing control can get away with singing this song.
It's a really sad story and one not to be forgotton

timeless, just perfect that song. Amazing Lyrics (my compliment Mike), brilliant melodie and Katie in Top Form. I don't understand neither, why it has never found its way to an album. And it has never been played live. I remember, Malcom mentioned once in the Offrum, that he has asked katie about that song, playeing live, and Katie thought that this is a good idea, but they have no arrangement yet.

One of my favourites, even before NMB in my ranking... I just discovered this song a few weeks away, but the way Katie sings it is very appealing... And I love the melody too :music:

I have to say I was very shocked as I heard that the story, Katies tells in this song, is true   It is a very sad and emotional fact. So Katie performs it excellent and her voice is amazing as ever.

It was very true. The scenes of devastation in my video were actual news shots from the event.

I always imagine the song is about finding the strength to forgive after such a terrible loss. Whether the song is absolution of one's guilt or for the perpetrators it is unclear. Really, it is quite haunting either way. To find forgiveness and start to find forgiveness are distinct concepts and make perfect sense in English diction.

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

when i heard this song for the first time, i didn't pay attention to the lyrics and thought it was rather decent song, but there were many others which were better; after i had read what was this song about, i listened carefully to the lyrics and from this time i've been always avoiding this song...

because it makes me Really sad...

she sings about watching the father being blown away with a strange tranquillity in voice

probably if it wasn't a real story, this song wouldn't move me so much, but in fact, it was a horrible truth and with her way of singing it, it has a huge impact on me

i do like this song, but i don't listen to it too often, because i want music to make me happy and listening and imagining that tragedy, definitively doesn't bring me any kind of pleasure...

You are exactly right. The way Katie chooses to sing this song has a strange impact. It's kind of detached and unemotional, which I find difficult to reconcile. I have to be in the right moood for this one :( , but it is brilliant.
