Katie Melua - 'Spellbound' Interview & Preview:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=4laf6jRa2KI

Lyrics:
I heard that lately,
You’ve gone through a mysterious change.
People say you’re secretive,
And you’ve been acting strange.
They say there’s magic afoot stay away they all warn,
But to me you were magical from the day that you were born.

Chorus:
I have become spellbound,
Spellbound.
You lifted me up high,
Now I don’t know how to get down.
I don’t know how to get down.

You’re very different,
You are so rare.
Some kind of witchcraft,
Is flying through the air.
I’ll admit I can’t explain why I feel how I do,
So you must have cast a spell,
That’s why my life feels new.

<Chorus> x2

I don’t know how to get down. x 3

It's the favourite song of my little daughter. And since I saw it live, I really love it:

It's growing on me a bit, but I can't get too excited about it I'm afraid. But one day it might just happen. I've been singing 'Scary Films' all day today, rather to my surprise  as I didn't like it initially. That's what's so good about Katie's songs; they seem to all improve the more you listen!

And that's all the more true with Pictures in my opinion !
About Spellbound, it's not my favourite but I like the happyness of the song. I'd say it's a smiling song :lolk: But not enough. It's a 5 minutes written song, but I think it's good anyway for gigs. The live version I heard in Paris was quite pleasant (actually could Katie be unpleasant in live ? ).

I have to confess I don´t like this song . I ´m not sure why , maybe it´s because the pitch change so fast.

I don't like it as much as some of her other songs either. I do think that it's a good song to sing live, or have on in the car or something as it is happy :D

I don't really like it either, I usually skip that song when listening to "Pictures", as I do with "Scary films". Her live performance of it is great, however. :approve:

This is asong that grows on you the nmore you listen to it, though it's not the best Katie-penned song. I like the mandolin solo though: reminds me of late 60's tunes for some reason.

Musically, it's more sophisticated than it sounds at first sight. And it's a song loved by children (not only by my daughter), and so it must have something special. Children have a good taste and good ears! Further, my impression is that's one of the songs Katie loves most of her owns. In an Italian interview now she has been asked to describe "Pictures" with one word, and she said "Movement". You're are right, Jos, that song is a growing one!

Spellbound isn't one of my favourites too, I'm afraid. Katie's strength is her ability to sing beautifully without appearing to put forth much effort, but in this song, it falters under heavy vocal work. It just feels like she is "trying". As for the writing, there isn't a sense of any deeper meaning to the lyrics, and to the song, which makes this mostly ear candy. I do like the "plucking" instrumentals as that provides the magical charm of this song.

Wasn't this your favourite song, even from two weeks ago?

also Alan my son, love that song. he is deeply impressed, how great katie can sing.

I love the song too. It has a special feeling and Katie just sings it great (especially Live). It's a song, where you can sit under a big palm tree direct at the caribbean see, which a huge Piña Colada.

For me there are three songs on the 'Pictures' album which belong together in their row:

- What I Miss About You
- Spellbound
- What It Says On The Tin

For me personally 'Spellbound' is the balancing middle of these three wonderful songs

I didn't like Spellbound since I've heard it live. Her performance combined with the lightshow made it climb up in my ranking!!

Definitely in the top 10 of Pictures for me :lolk:

Completely agree! The little skip in her voice on the line "You lifted me up high-gh, now I don’t know how to get down.". Simply gorgeous. That alone makes it my favourite song on the album.

The first "happy" song she wrote herself, I'm more a fan of the "sad" songs

It's not my favorite of Pictures, but I like it...

However, the live version is excellent!!!!!

This is a bit weird for me, cause I never really listened to this song properly until recently and I always regarded it as a really 'nice' track on the album but I thought there was better ones. I listened to it properly recently and I can now say it is my fave Katie Melua song. :approve:
