From Katie Melua's sophomore album, Piece by Piece.

Video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=d9N0da_B8-E

Lyrics:
These blue shoes seem to suit me well
When I feel like hell
As I do now that you’re gone
Lost and lonely since you stopped caring
I’ve been wearing my new shoes
I’ve been wearing my blue shoes

You and I made the perfect pair
It don’t seem fair, I loved you more than you know
Sorry I’m in such a sorry state
But while I wait for some good news
I’ll be wearing my blue shoes

Don’t feel like walking strong
Shufflin’ along on my way home
Trudgin’ down that shopping street
Where we used to meet
But I aint buying
I’m wearing my blue shoes and crying

These blue shoes seem to suit my soul
Since you shot that hole
Since you shot that hole in my heart
And if I wind up on the sidewalk bleeding
I won’t be needing my new shoes
Won’t be needing my blue shoes

Instrumental

These blue shoes seem to suit me well
When I feel like hell
As I do now that you’re gone
Lost and lonely since you stopped caring
I’ve been wearing my new shoes
I’ve been wearing my blue shoes

Written by Mike Batt
Published by Dramatico / Sony / ATV Music Publishing (UK) Ltd
From the album 'Piece By Piece'

Track never released as a single.

Amazing song. On the album it didn't seem that outstanding until I heard it the first time live. Unbelievable, how much power Katie puts in that song.

I really tried to like this song, perhaps looking for inspiration in her performance, or the lyrics, but this song just doesn't capture my imagination in the same way as all her other songs on Piece by Piece.

Her performance is superb but the song itself is so ponderously slow, at times I think when is this song going to be over. I've never heard this song performed live.

I've made a spritelier remixed version. Enjoy.

I think I've got to see it live! :singingk: It's in the last part on my ranking for the moment, but it doesn't mean I don't like it ;)

The first time I heard it I didn't like it at all..
But now, after hearing it for like a million times, I love it.. :)

One of my all-time favourites, one of Katie's most sensual songs and one of the best Mike Batt compositions in my eyes.

Rarely performed live, and so...please

For the first time I thought this song is a little bit "boring"
But after hearing it more times patiently, now I think, there is a lot of phantasy in it, soo sad but calm at the same time... interesting but I feel it is a soothing song

This is my least favorite from PBP, but still like it. Glad I was there when she sang this song live

I'm quite suprised ! Blue Shoes is one of my favorite song from Katie. We can hear so many colours of her voice and it's just perfect to allow her to give so many feelings. I reckon the album version is already a masterpiece ; this song is really hard to sing and Katie does it astonishingly. I can't believe how many faces of her voice we can hear there, that's wonderful. I'm gonna listen to a live version to understand why you mainly prefer it !

No need to tell you how I feel about this song! But what's interesting here is that I much prefer the album version to any of the live performances I've heard (I'll have to check these out that are here).

I find it hard to believe that people don't like it when she puts so much of herself into the performance.

My favourite word is 'shufferling' as in 'shufferling along, on my way home' and the heart-wrencher that gets me always is the line: 'but I'm not buying, I'm wearing my blue shoes and crying..'

It's my second favourite of all Katie's songs and it could go higher....

I love the way she sings it, but I don't like the song. It shows her voice extremely well, but it's not a song that appeals to me.

I love this song! Always have, always will. To me its beauty lies in its simplicity, and the ease with which I can identify with the emotions it brings to life.

The first time I heard it was at the concert at Wembley Arena. It's ok in my view, nothing extraordinary. Good lyrics overall!

Indeed the way Katie says "crying" may be shivering sometimes... I still have to see a live performance to appreciate it differently.

One of the few songs I skip when listening to the albums. I'd like to hear it live as I guess it could be altered but as a recording it's well down my list I'm afraid.

Actually this song usually is one of the least favourites, I guess. Don’t know why, it's not one of my favourites either.

That's a fair comment, we don't all want to be the same anyway. But it is interesting how this song polarises opinion: you either seem to love it or 'hate' it. :|
I think you do have to be in the mood for it and sometimes I also skip it because of that (ie I'm not in the mood for it)
and/or I need to concentrate and hear it without interruptions. :music:

I remember, that we had a discussion in the OFFRUM about that song, that Katie never sung it Live and not even two month later, she played it live. :ninja: :ninja:

As I said in another post (a post, that, frankly, should've been put in song reviews first!) In 'Blue Shoes,' Katie does so much with the phrasing. Her whispers are more evocative than other singer's screams. It is so stunning to me how evocative this song is.

this song and "Learning the Blues" is where Katie shows her amazing vocal abilities. i've always like this song, but as it was said before, you have to be in the mood to listen to it!
