A moment of madness
It's happened before
It could turn into sadness or a civil war
You've got me changing all I ever thought

When you first got so mad lost your rag
Trying to some save some trees
Angry cries, saw your thighs
And I fell to my knees
Oh my god what is this?
It's a moment of madness,

When we drank too much beer
Lost our fear
Our defenses were down
You got up tried your luck
Bought a dubious round
It can be hard to resist
It's a moment of madness

A promise of passion
A trailer of sin
A smiling assassin
The demon within
Endorphins are raging
Resistance is thin

And you're blowing my mind
‘Cause I find that your theories of life
Are insane, feed my brain
I could listen all night
I can't leave till we kiss
It's a moment of madness

And I just wanna stare at your hair
And imagine you opening your door
In your drawer there's some leather in there
I refuse, you persist
It’s a moment of madness

You know I’m not asking a lot,
Only your life,
I don't want to get what I want,
But I'm willing to try,
And I'm gonna ask you to stop,
But I'm full of lies

When you first got so mad lost your rag
Trying to save some trees
Angry cries, saw your thighs
And I fell to my knees
Oh my God what is this?
It's a moment of madness

And I just wanna stare at your hair
And imagine you opening your door
In your drawer there's some leather in there
I refuse, you persist
It’s a moment of madness

From the album 'The House'
Written by Katie Melua and Guy Chambers

Another highlight of the album.

I love that 30 years swing songs. It shows, how versatile Katie is. That song is just wow. Yesterday I was in the mood for it and I heard it 5 times in a row. It really did cheer me up. Thank you for that song, Katie

Some quirky, but great lyrics in there. I wonder if she will be quizzed on the leather reference in an interview soon. I'd love to see her reaction to that!

I think that I'm of a few people that liked so much this song.

A circus style, very different, but it's looks like a waltz.

About a lyric, it's look like a situation between a couple troubles:
Quote:
A moment of madness
It's happened before
It could turn into sadness or a civil war
You've got me changing all I ever thought

They have like a disturbed relationship but they can't live without each other. But one of then makes another to feel like a clown, manipulating the situation (a moment of madness). Like a marionette (or puppet). So, with this kind of conclusion is possible to understand why this song has a "circus style".

In the end, it's clear that talks about a human behavior, and a cheated situations, that of course everyone must be pay attention.

To me the song is about a big passion and desire between two lovers.
Quote:
A promise of passion
A trailer of sin

A smiling assassin
The demon within
Endorphins are raging
Resistance is thin

Quote:
I can't leave till we kiss
It's a moment of madness

Narrator tries to prove even to herself she can stay calm, maybe she thinks she shouldn't be so close with that partner but in the end she can't resist the 'sin' ;)
Quote:
And I just wanna stare at your hair
And imagine you opening your door
In your drawer there's some leather in there
I refuse, you persist
It’s a moment of madness

You know I’m not asking a lot,
Only your life,
I don't want to get what I want,
But I'm willing to try,
And I'm gonna ask you to stop,
But I'm full of lies

Dirty lyrics :e: I love that!

I think, I'm too innocent, but I have never seen it that way.

I hope, Katie sings that song during her tour, even when her Mom is in the audience

You should see her mimics during singing that song ;)
She can easily express that dirty lyrics :e: (at least she could in CdP in June)
Katie at her best :approve:

@Agnieszka: Funny that you didn't point out the most "suggestive" line of all:

Quote:
In your drawer there's some leather in there

In combination with the following line this clearly alludes to certain things...

Agreed KEWA. I think the tune and the orchestration are very 'Kurt Weill' and Kats voice is just phenomenal. the lyrics are yet another exploration (as is the whole album) of Kat herself. She's no longer an innocent little girl that everyone wanted to like and comfort when she was sad and lost in love but is an astoundingly beautiful woman that many thousands would love to get their hands on for very less than innocent reasons!
In several songs there is reference to 'sin' so there is still conflict in (her) mind about what she really wants against what society at large expects, even demands. It takes real courage to put this kind of self examination up for public scrutiny as these lyrics do. I would like her to publish some of her poetry too, especially things she wrote in the year before the album where she realised they wouldn't do for lyrics.
'A Moment of Madness'? Many more please.

I really want to see that!!

@Hans: I never thing about dirty things in Katie's songs. I don't know why, but I think, as I see her as an angel, I simply can't imagine. But now, knowing now the second possible meaning, I'm down on the floor for laughing!!!
