I just noticed a topic about the other Georgian song that Katie is currently performing at the UK concerts is still missing. So that gap has to be filled.

qviteli potlebi

qviteli potlebi tan miakvs kars
da aqris pipkebad shens sakhlis k'ars,
gedzakhi aravin ara mtsems khmas,
qviteli potlebi sichumes gavs.

gedzakhi aravin ara mtsems khmas,
qviteli potlebi sichumes gavs.

I remember we once had a discussion at meluniverse about the correct translation and I think it was said that the following one that can be found is good (I can't say if it's true or not):

"The wind is carrying the yellow leaves,
and as a snow it on your door leaves,
I call you but answers me quietness,
Yellow leaves are like the silence."

I didn't find any youtube video, if someone knows a link, please add it. ;)

I must say when I heard it three days ago in the O2 I wasn't that enthusiastic and had preferred to hear Chemo Tsitsinatela instead. But somehow I start to feel different after listening to it again a few times, especially the live recording from London (thanks to mistermark :approve: ), I really love that song now and still "hear" it the whole day long. Absolutely wonderful! :music:

I have only stored the version she sang about one year ago for the BBC World Services on my mp3player.

It is such a wonderful song which brings me every time I hear it tears in my eyes.

Absolutely. Katie brings so much emotion and live into that song, that you understand, what she sings without understanding one word. Brilliant, Katie, just brilliant.

I didn't think I would but I heard it live in Nantes, it's really nice to finally have a song in Georgian, and it shows that Katie still think of her former home (though we couldn't think that she didn't of course)

Totally I agree with you Roland !
It's my favourite from Live O2. This CD is worth buying just for this performance. :approve:

"Qviteli potlebi" (Yellow Leaves) by Giya Kancheli http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giya_Kancheli

comes from 1977 film "Mimino" (Мимино) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimino

Used originally in the film performance by Nato Metonidze

Only explaining until now known the fragment (of beginning?):

"The wind is carrying the yellow leaves,
and as a snow it on your door leaves,
I call you but answers me quietness,
Yellow leaves are like the silence."

it could already exist, and then later used for a film,so it can still be an old song.

aww, i am so happy you started a topic on this! i am in love with this song and will try to get it on piano.
(katie's version is the best!)

Edit: I just found out the chords! I couldn't find any, so i did it myself. not sure it's right

C D[ E Am
qviteli potlebi tan miakvs kars
A Dm G C
da aqris pipkebad shens sakhlis k'ars,
C D] E Am
gedzakhi aravin ara mtsems khmas,
A Dm G C
qviteli potlebi sichumes gavs.

*D] for me means: Take Dm an leave out the third string. i hope this helps!
