We tried to change the world quite rightly
Maybe we changed it ever so slightly
I dont know
Baby did we

Now Ive forgotten how to kiss you
But I know that in the night I still miss you
And all the love we had

When I was Joan of Arc
And you were Jack the Lad

Though we put on airs and graces
We were kids with dirty faces on the road
Hidden somewhere

Being poor but feeling richer
And the earth stood still as I took a picture
Of all the love we had

When I was Joan of Arc
And you were Jack the Lad

And like all the things we knew it wouldnt last
By my mind is holding memories
cause we spend the time too fast
Then the feeling kind of shifty
And in time we both just drifting different ways, different stories

Different roads we both had wandered
But I know Ill never say
That we spand it
All the love we had

When I was Joan of Arc
And you were Jack the Lad

When I was Joan of Arc
And you were Jack the Lad

It's about time Joan of Arc & Jack the Lad got its own thread! :approve:

I've said this a million times before.. This song is IMO so underrated. I love the melody and the lyrics. It's so catchy and such a happy song. It's one of the songs that I sing the most while driving. :D I wish there was a studio version of this song though.. or that she would do it live more often. It's a really good song!

This is a beautiful song. I don't know why but the lyrics and her singing makes me well up.

Is that also a cover? Or did one of them (Katie or Mike) write that song?

Gorgeous tune, with Mike and Katie complementing each other splendidly on harmonies. :music: :D :music: :D
Why there isn't a studio recording of it is a big mystery....

I think, Katie herself wrote it, but I can be wrong.

I looooooooooooooooooove that song. As Spicy, it just makes me feel fine. I don't understand, why it has never been release on album or as B-Side.

I’m not sure about it either. If I had to bet I would say Mike wrote it, but as it seems there is no information on the internet either so we’ll never know?

Anyway, I absolutely love this songs. Just brilliant how she performs it. And as I’ve said dozens and dozens of times I’m so sad they never recorded it in the studio. Had been my favourite for quite a while. Still my #3 on last.fm with 587 plays. :)

"Additionally, in a set that lasted an hour and a half, we heard 'B'-side tracks from the singles: the Mike Batt composition, Thank You, Stars plus Katie's self-penned Downstairs to the Sun and Shirt Of A Ghost both of which demonstrate that the girl can write as well as sing. The latter was introduced by Katie with the announcement that she'd first conceived the song while doing the ironing! Additionally, there were tasters from the next album: Spider's Web (a song about racism) and, co-written between Katie and Mike, Joan of Arc, Jack the Lad. These songs suggest that the range of both style and subject on the new album could be wider than that of 'Search'."

I can't believe there haven't been any thread for this wonderful song! :music:

The lyrics, the melody, and of course Katie's interpretation, everything fit :D

The article quoted makes it seem as if originally the song was intended for the 2nd album. Why, why, why didn't it make it?

According to the song lyrics published on the German Katie Melua Fanclub site, both words and music of JOA & JTL written by Katie Melua. Anyway one of my top favourite Katie songs since first listening/watching the OTRA DVD. :D

That is conceivable.
Journalists are sometimes/often (optional) inaccurate. :confusedk:
