Somewhere in the same hotel,
Was it in the bar?
I saw you once, but I don’t know who you are.
I don’t usually obsess, but I confess,
I wish I knew you well.
All I know is, here I am and there you are, somewhere in the same hotel.

Somewhere in the same hotel,
Yesterday we passed again,
And I thought you looked my way.
I don’t want for this to be a fantasy,
But as far as I can tell,
You’re alone just like me, here at night, somewhere in the same hotel.

Maybe you’re in the next room?
Or just across the hall?
Maybe somebody’s waiting,
At home for you to call?

I’m yearning in the morning light,
Of the dawning day,
Cos we missed our chance,
And I have to go away.
I don’t even know you’re name?
But all the same,
I hope you’re sleeping well,
If you’re still there all alone,
Cos I’m no longer,
Somewhere in the same hotel.

Me too! :approve:

It reminds me at songs Mr. Tarantino would choose as background music for his movie soundtracks.

Absolute wonderful!

I haven't been able to listen to it yet, but the lyrics remind me of "Lost in translation" which I've watched again lately :D

I don't like it really, it's somehow boring and lacks those special moments many Katie songs usually have. It tries to imitate the style of Call off the search or Learnin' the blues, but for me it stays far behind them. I neither like the melody nor the lyrics, only her voice is excellent as always and makes it worth listening.

First I had problems with the song, but I begin to like the song, good, it never will be my favourite, not as 2BF, TC and the new BTLOMM.

I have no problem with the song. Its interesting that voice is different from the other songs, a little bit more sonorous (the right word?)

I haven't even heard this one yet, but the lyrics are so sweet.

Not really a favorite of mine.

I listened to it a dozen times now.....

Hard to explain, a bit too slow, a bit boring :?

I knew I would be out of step with everyone else but I prefer it to Toy Collection, which does absolutely nothing for me.

The lyrics are pretty amazing... full of allegory. Very Mike Batt-ish when he is at his best. I think the melody and Katie's approach to the singing falls a bit below what I expected from the lyrics.

I think her voice sounds absolutely great, really blue ish, resonant...mature.
I don´t think it´s "trying to imitate" the style of COTS, LTB etc, this is a completely different blues style..there is not "the blues"..
maybe it sounds a bit slaggish but overall I actually really like it. :approve: :approve:

Now the song found the way into ma heart.

On Friday night, very night, I had to drive threw a lonely load. No other cars. I heard to collections, and when SITSH started, I wanted to skip it, but suddenly it touched me enormously and I got tears in my eyes. I think, now I have understood that song.

This song definitely seems to me to be one that grows on a lot of people. IMHO it's one of the best Katie/Mike collaborations.

Unlike most of the people here, I LOVED from the first listening!!!!!! :music: :music:
For all thoe who wanted katie to revert to a COTS-type sound this is for you: she channels the spirit of Nina Simone and oozes loneliness and heartbreak with her voice. I can imagine myself in a smoky Jazz bar in a big town or a lost lounge in the 1930's when listening to it.

If this is the last Batt/Melua collaboration, it is quite a send off!!! :approve: :approve:

I have loved it from the first opening bars. It really gets to me just like TCTTC. The difference being she sings it with more maturity. I would really love to have an up to date revised studio version of TCTTC to see of the sound comes though.

I've loved from the first listening too :)

I think the lyrics are great, and Katie's melancholic voice adds up very well to them. I can't say I prefer it to Toy Collection, which is quite different, but I really like it a lot :)

PS Kewa, you sometimes skip some songs? I'm literally shocked :o

I agree with Barbara - SITSH is back to Katie's (and Mike's) roots, but with Katie's voice that much more mature and stronger now than when COTS was recorded.

I love toy story but at the moment this song is going to have to grow a little more I think.
On first hearing it I liked it but have then slowly gone off it.
