A cover from Tyranosaurus Rex's, A Beard of Stars album, the song appears as an exclusive free download from Katie's website, in support of promotion for The Katie Melua Collection being released in the fall of 2008. [article]

The song features a twangy, yet rock country melody with Katie's superb singing, of course!

Lyrics:
I'm gonna dance with my baby
By the light of a magical moon x2
As I go along my way
I say hey-hey x2

I'm gonna talk with the elders
And tell all of our hearts
That is good I'll barefoot dance with my baby
By the light of a magical moon

When I slay the darkest day
Then we can play
'Till that deep and joyous day
We'll dance and pray.

As I go along my way
I say hey-hey x2

(lyrics originally written by Marc Bolan, 1970)

Nice song - not her best by a long shot but reassuringly good!

Right now I seem to prefer this one to "Toy Collection" but, it's still too fresh so that could change.
Will see tomorrow.

I love the 60's sound, and of course Katie's voice :music:
It will not be in my very best of list, but definitely in my second one :)

Aha, interesting. Where did you discover that? :?

I still wonder why they make a free download of a song, but if it's only a cover and no new song it's more understandable.

I hope her music will go more in the direction of 'Two Bare Feet'/'By the Light of a Magical Moon'. More blues/jazz-like and less pop.

This song has dash of psychodelia mixed with country rock. Another good example of Katie's wonderful ability to sing whatever style comes to her. :music: :music: :music:

She would definately had made it in the early 70's with this style!!!

Some songs sound great at first but spoon outstay their welcome. This song is the opposite.

After more listens, I find I am really liking this song. Her singing sounds effortless, and suits the song. If you like that bit of country sound with sliding guitar, then this will suit you.

I think this song have some semiotic way showing the new songs: "Two Bare Feet", "Toy Collection" and "Somewhere In The Same Hotel".

Take some parts:
By the Light of a Magical Moon

I'm gonna talk with the elders
And tell all of our hearts
(Toy Collection: Who’s to say when you get older...)

That is good I'll barefoot dance with my baby
By the light of a magical moon
(Two Bare Feet: Dancing cat and dancing mouse... All you need is two bare feet)

When I slay the darkest day
Then we can play
'Till that deep and joyous day
We'll dance and pray.
    (Somewhere in the same hotel:
    Yesterday we passed again,
And I thought you looked my way.
I don’t want for this to be a fantasy,
But as far as I can tell,
You’re alone just like me, here at night,
    ...)

As I go along my way
I say hey-hey x2
(maybe she wanna say a self-way after Collections Album?)

Okay, okay it is not a typical 'Melua'-song but imagine back at the 'New Pop Festival'-concert of 2006:

Katie sings an acoustic session (nearly unplugged) only a few musicians of her band ... and of course Henry on the box. In my opinion this song would fit stunningly.

:music: I loved this cover straight away with Katie in Maria Muldaur mode. 8-)
It's far better than the original which I have on the Marc Bolan & T.Rex Essential Collection track 12.
I must have played it about a dozen times so far.

For me, that song (as 2BF and TC) got into my ears and never left. I can't stop hearing that 3 songs!!!

what an arrogance! flog her and throw her into dungeon! :D

i think i'm the only one person who doesn't hear any country in it, but it's probably because i don't listen to country and don't know what country really is... i heard that only divorced truck drivers listen to country... :)
