Yesterday Katie sang 'Toy Collection' on the guitar :strum:. It was great :music:.I hope this song will be good, too on TKMC.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dXMvaxWsWI

This is a lyrics:

I will not sell my toy collection
If I did I would weep
Who’s to say what you need and what you don’t
On a desert island they’re the things I’ll keep

Some children had their parents read them stories
Well I heard mine directly from the source
Captain Kirk shared his tales and glories
While fighting a deadly force

Who’s to say when you get older
You don’t need a toy collection?
Who’s to say when you get older
That you have to follow convention?

Black beard told me of his troubled mother
And with his songs he’d sing me off to sleep
He said Superman was my real father
And they gave me dreams that I still keep

Who’s to say when you get older
You don’t need a toy collection?
Who’s to say when you get older
That you have to follow convention?

It is definitely good on the album, it's excellent. ;) I like also the lyrics, althought the first sentence, hmm...

Quote:
I will not sell my toy collection

Somehow, "If I had to, I would weep" or "'cause it would make me weep" etc. would make more sense to me, but that's a matter of taste, I suppose. I'm also a bit unsure about the Cpt.Kirk thing, if that really fits to the text. The rest is great, and the way she sings it fits perfectly to it. Pure melancholy, about those feelings that you are adult now and have to be more "serious", but you want to keep at least a piece of your childhood. That's perfectly captured in the song. One of my absolute favourites! :approve:

I will wait until Collection is on the sheves to hear it, but I gotta say those are great lyrics: simple but well articulated.

Well done Katie!!!! :approve:

The booklet of the Collection lists it as written by Katie, and that is also what Mike once said in a newsletter. ;) She wrote it for the soundtrack of a Myspace-film. The website is wrong here, I hope they will notice and correct it.

It's more to hope that to fear :D

It's not that I don't like Mike's songs (because I do), because all the songs Katie's written are so good that I prefer them :music:

Mike Batt's Newsletter:

Sitting here in the studio bashing out my latest blog while we mix the surround (5.1) for the new film Faintheart (a MySpace film in association with Vertigo Films). Sounds cool. We recorded it in Dublin after lots of hurried writing. Used the Irish Film Orchestra at Windmill Lane Studios. I wrote the score but many of the songs are from MySpace sites. Katie has written one song, called "Toy Collection" which she sings, and I've written one song called "A Day Like This" which I sing. It is directed by first-time-feature director Vito Rocco. It's a really good film, even though it only had a 1m pound budget. Funny and poignant. [...]

This song is uber super SUBLIME! I love it! There is a certain magical quality about it, from her singing to the spine-tingling melody, which reminds me a bit of a Amélie, Toy Story 2, and the early Pixar short films. The song gives the same feeling as the scene in Toy Story 2 when children outgrow their toys, an experience I think every child laments.

Toy Collection is right up there with some of Katie's best, and dare I say it is in my Top 5. Katie in true form.
